The Kin Club of Cambridge (Preston) Inc is part of Kin Canada, the only major service club organization that is Canadian only. The club was chartered in 1944 and membership is open to male and female residents of Waterloo Region, who are over 19 years of age and who want to volunteer to improve their community, to establish life long friendships and to improve their own business and social skills. Membership includes regular members as well as active Life Members.
The club holds general meetings on the Third Tuesday of each month from September to June and executive meetings on the 1st Tuesday of the month from September to June at the Kin hall 1400 Hamilton Street, Cambridge. The club also holds a number of fund raising and social events, as well as service work events, during the year.
The Executive of the club provides overall direction of the club. The Executive consists of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Past President, Risk Manager, Bulletin Editor, Membership Chairman, and Cystic Fibrosis/Service Chairman. The general membership approves all new projects, all major donations, all committee and Executive reports and all other initiatives of the club, as recommended by Executive. All projects are chaired by a member and are planned and carried out by a committee of members.
The primary objective of the club is to “serve our community’s greatest needs”. We do that by raising funds, making donations to local charities and individuals, carrying out service work and by supporting and/or providing funding to other local groups such as Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Haven House, Preston Figure Skating Club, Cambridge Food Bank, Salvation Army Wish Tree, Cystic Fibrosis research and the Vasculitis Society, to name a few. We also have been very active in providing facilities in Riverside Park, Preston Town Centre and Cambridge in general.
